Alex Ruiz was born on May 4th 1986 in New Jersey and spent his early childhood navigating the contrasts of two cultures. At the age of seven he moved to Medellín Colombia a transition that left a deep imprint on his perception of identity communication and human behavior. It was in Medellín that he began formal artistic training under a university professor who introduced him to the discipline of classical oil painting. Through rigorous study he learned the foundations of still life landscape composition and the subtle craft of mixing and applying oil color. These early studies grounded him in strong technical skill and refined attention to detail. In 2007 Ruiz returned to Miami and continued his education at Florida International University where he earned a degree in Fine Arts. This period marked a shift in his creative direction expanding his work from traditional realism into more surreal and expressive modes of painting. His palette intensified his forms became more experimental and his interest in pop culture sound and psychological behavior began to shape a new visual language. Ruiz’s work blends technical mastery with a contemporary edge incorporating vivid color layered symbolism and a playful yet incisive approach to the human condition. His paintings often explore ideas of masking and revealing identity tension between authenticity and performance and the emotional noise that shapes modern life. While grounded in intellectual curiosity his tone carries a subtle dark humor and an effortless directness that has become central to his artistic voice. His compositions draw from nostalgia cultural icons and the chaotic energy of urban environments weaving them into narratives that feel both familiar and unsettling. Ruiz’s style is bold cinematic and deeply intuitive balancing seriousness with a sense of mischief that invites viewers to question what they see and what lies beneath the surface. Today Alex Ruiz continues to develop a body of work that merges technical precision with expressive freedom bridging classical technique with contemporary culture. His art reflects a mind always observing always analyzing and always willing to challenge the line between what is shown and what is concealed.
