Bernard Séjourné (1947–1994) was a leading figure of modern Haitian art, known for his refined elegance and spiritual depth. Born in Port-au-Prince, he developed a distinctive style that blended Caribbean mysticism, contemporary aesthetics, and poetic atmosphere. Associated with both the School of Beauty and the Saint-Soleil movement, he became renowned for his graceful female figures, elongated silhouettes, lush florals, and serene landscapes. Working mainly on large Masonite panels with fluid acrylic lines and vibrant tropical tones, Séjourné mastered color and abstraction, giving his work a timeless and harmonious presence. His career gained international attention through exhibitions in Dakar, Montreal (Expo 67), New York, Paris, Miami, and beyond. A highlight of his recognition came in 1986, when he was commissioned to design the label for Château Mouton-Rothschild’s prestigious Pauillac vintage. Also an accomplished sculptor, he contributed to major interior design projects in Haiti, including the Montana Hotel. Since his passing in 1994, Séjourné’s reputation has only grown, and he remains celebrated as a master of Haitian modernism whose work continues to captivate collectors and admirers worldwide.
