Allen A.D. (born Joseph Michael Bondanella) is an American artist, photographer, and staff political cartoonist for the New Pelican newspaper. Born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale, Allen was recognized early for his artistic talents by friends, family, classmates, and teachers. Although praised by some educators, his dedication to drawing often attracted disciplinary action from school administrators who felt he spent more time on art than on academics. After graduating from N.E. High School in 1998, Allen pursued his dream of becoming a cartoonist and professional photographer. He attended Broward Community College, where he studied fine art, photojournalism, and architectural design. Since 2013, Allen has been active in the South Florida art community. Notable achievements include: Winner of the Mizner Park Photo Contest (2013) Photography featured in a local wildlife calendar (2014) “Best in Show” at the Uncommon Art Gallery for his mixed media collage on canvas (2020) Today, Allen A.D. continues to contribute to the creative community and is honored to be part of the Art Tree Relief Project.
